Safety in Maguindanao del Sur
This is the area to arrange rather than improvise. Several municipalities carry standing advisories and a visible military presence, and clan disputes are a real and local phenomenon that outsiders read badly. Travel with a local contact who knows the specific town, coordinate with the LGU, and treat any plan that does not include those two steps as incomplete.
The Sa-Wa River flows through Sitio Tangkapa in Barangay Talibadok, Datu Hoffer Ampatuan. Where it runs over natural ground it forms a small pool of more or less 7 feet deep, which the provincial government lists among the town's tourism sites for anyone wanting a dip in clear water.
The provincial tourism list groups Datu Hoffer under the heading Mini Switzerland of MDS. The town is also home to Teduray craft communities; in Barangay Limpongo, women weave rattan and bamboo goods for sale.
